Raphael Lemkin, a Polish Jew and Deputy Public Prosecutor of Warsaw in his mid-late 20s, defined and conceptualised genocide in 1943. His undefatigable work ensured the United Nations ratified the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in December 1948.
