Book Launch: Within These Walls by Robyn Bavati
Within These Walls was commissioned by Scholastic Australia to serve as an introduction to the Holocaust for readers aged 11 and over.
Within These Walls will be launched by acclaimed author and doctor Leah Kaminsky.
For Miri and her family, life in Warsaw is full of simple joys. The smell of freshly baked challah, the promise of summer holidays, and Fridays when everyone comes together to celebrate the Sabbath. But when the Germans march into Warsaw with their campaign of hatred against the Jews, Miri and her family must move to the ghetto.
One by one her family are taken from her, and Miri finds herself alone. Based on true events, Within These Walls gives a realistic account of what it was like to be a Jewish child in Warsaw during the Holocaust.
In conversation with Leah, award-winning author Robyn Bavati will discuss her research process and the inspiration behind the story, and how she based a significant part of it on the DVD testimony of Melbourne’s own Miriam Lederman.
Note: By buying a copy of Within These Walls, you will be supporting ‘Courage to Care’, a program that teaches young people to take a stand against discrimination.
