Guest Speaker: Sheiny New
Board Member, The Jewish Taskforce Against Family Violence, Inc
“Family Violence – Community Responsibility”
Sheiny New has a degree in Media and Politics with a special interest in women’s issues, from Swinburne University. She has been a member of The Jewish Taskforce Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault for 14 years.
Sheiny has written a number of groundbreaking articles which have been published in international Jewish women’s magazines exposing the realities of family violence and sexual assault, including rape in marriage, at a time when few people were prepared to talk about these topics, helping to place these issues firmly onto the Jewish community agenda.
She lectures widely about the realities of family violence and sexual assault and has addressed the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of Australasia on the subject. Mrs New addressed the Plenum Board of The Jewish Community Council of Victoria about why it is so difficult to speak out about sexual assault in the Jewish Community. She is married to Chaim and has 7 children and 1 grandchild.
