the “first book ever written” devoted to the amazingly fascinating life of Catherine Rachel Mendes da Costa (1678/9 – 1756), the “first-ever female Jewish painter in recorded history”; the second-ever English-born female painter after Mary Beale (1633 – 1699); and the first-ever English-born Jewish painter, either male or female!
The book will be launched by Rabbi John Levi AM, PhD, DD, Emeritus Rabbi of Temple Beth Israel who is widely acknowledged as a Jewish historian of note, and Christopher Bantick, a well-known columnist and book reviewer.
