MHM Social Club: Sue Hampel OAM

MHM Social Club Guest Speaker Sue Hampel OAM, Co-President, Melbourne Holocaust Museum, will give a lecture on “From Romania to Poland  – and to Rwanda: a Reflective Journey of the child of a Holocaust Survivor”.

Sue Hampel was a high school teacher at Mount Scopus Memorial College in Australia for over 30 years. She is currently working at Monash University as an academic mentor to indigenous students and a teaching associate in Modern Jewish History, Holocaust and Post Conflict studies. Sue holds a Masters degree in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. She has led numerous groups of students and adults to Poland and Rwanda.

Sue founded March of the Living Australia. Sue was selected to represent Australia as an expert in education at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) plenary sessions.

Sue has been recognised for her teaching and community service by receiving numerous awards including a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in January 2014 for Service to the community through the promotion of understanding and tolerance through education.
