This special function will be held to mark the 75th anniversary of the historic petition presented on 6 December 1938 by William Cooper, Aboriginal leader and political activist, to the German Consulate in protest against the Kristallnacht pogrom and the Nazis’ treatment of the Jews.
The Honorary German Consul-General, Mr Michael Pearce SC, and William Cooper’s grandson, Uncle Alfred “Boydie” Turner, will attend the function, together with guests from the Aboriginal community and representatives from the scholarship departments of Deakin and Monash Universities.
Mr and Mrs Nick and Nina Yates and Mr and Mrs Denis and Tauba Wilson will attend as our special guests and will launch the Melbourne Holocaust Museum Wilson Family Scholarship for indigenous students at Monash and Deakin Universities in memory of William Cooper.
