The Aftermath

Ended

The war ended but the suffering continued for Jews as most Jewish survivors were unable to resettle in their pre-war homes.

Many found that their homes and businesses had been taken over by others.

A few Jewish survivors give their friend a proper burial. He had been buried during the war as a Christian in Warsaw, Poland.

Mendl Szmerling was nine years old when the war ended. In 1948 he was still a stateless refugee.
