Join us for an evening with Lucy Adlington in conversation with Dr Breann Fallon as they delve into Lucy’s latest publication Four Red Sweaters. This non-fiction account tells the stories of four Jewish girls and women during the Holocaust, ranging from the ages of nine to nineteen. These strangers were all unknowingly linked by everyday garments. Four Red Sweaters reveals how the ordinary can connect us in extraordinary ways. Jock Heidenstein, Anita Lasker, Chana Zumerkorn, and Regina Feldman all faced the Holocaust in different ways. They did not know each other, and had never met. However each had a red sweater that would play a major part in their lives. This account documents their stories, knitting together the experiences that fragmented their families and their lives. The resilience, skills, strength, and kindness of these young women accompanied them through the darkest events in human history. Four Red Sweaters aims to be a powerful reminder of the suffering they endured and a celebration of courage, love, and tenacity. It illuminates moments long lost to history, now pieced back together by a simple garment.

With more than twenty years of experience in social history, Lucy Adlington is fascinated by the stories historical clothes tell about those who made, sold and wore them. She shares her insights through writing both non-fiction and fiction, as well as leading clothes-in-context events and presentations across the world. Lucy loves reading and writing on the sofa. She is also on a quest to add to her collection of antique and vintage clothing. You will often find her exploring car boot sales, flea markets and vintage fairs looking for historical treasures. Lucy lives on a working farm in Yorkshire with a patient farmer and a herd of rather fabulous cats.
Dr Breann Fallon is the Head of Experience and Learning at the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. Working across the museums, education and human rights sectors Dr Fallon is also the president of the National Education Network for the Australian Museums and Galleries Association and served as an expert on the 2023 federal senate inquiry into the national ban on Nazi symbols, which was ultimately successful. Breann taught in the Studies in Religion department at the University of Sydney for over three years; her research interests include religion and violence, genocide, human rights, cinema, material religion, and gender, having published on all of these topics. A regular in the media, Breann is the host of the documentary ‘Trafficked to Australia’, was co-editor of the podcast ‘The Religious Studies Project,’ and has hosted ABC Radio National program ‘God Forbid.’
