Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick.

The Melbourne Holocaust Museum is in Elsternwick – an inner suburb of Melbourne about 15 minutes from the CBD. Known for its historical charm with contemporary amenities, Elsternwick is teeming with vibrant cafés, beautiful parks and diverse retailers. Perfect for a daytime exploration before or after your trip to the MHM. Here are some of the things you can do around our neighbourhood.

Food and drink

Within a short walking distance from our museum is Glen Huntly Road.

Home to many cafés, wine bars and restaurants, you’ll find something to suit everyone’s taste and price bracket. Amongst the variety of European, Mexican and Asian eateries are boutiques selling clothes, homewares and more, as well as a quality cinema. And not far away is the historic Rippon Lea Estate, a Victorian mansion set in 14 acres of garden.

Our museum is easily accessible by train, tram and bus.

Outdoor spaces

Elsternwick Plaza Park is in the heart of the Elsternwick activity centre – just 100m from the MHM.

With undercover BBQs, picnic tables and a playground, it’s the perfect space to relax and enjoy the greenery amid an urban space.

Classic Cinemas

Only 150m away from our museum is Classic Cinemas – the longest continuously operating cinema in Victoria.

The Classic is a cultural precinct for all film-loving Melburnians, with 10 auditoriums – and a rooftop cinema that runs during the summer months. It also houses Classic Southside – an intimate space dedicated to music and comedy that operates year-round.

More than a community hub, Classic Cinemas also hosts the Jewish International Film Festival, which brings the best of Jewish-themed and Israeli films to cinemas across Australia.

Other events held at the Classic include the Children’s International Film Festival, and Europa! Europa Film Festival.
