Leave a gift in your Will
Your gift to the future
MHM is dedicated to collecting precious Holocaust artefacts. Recording and amplifying Holocaust survivor stories. And educating thousands of school students about the Holocaust every year.
Our impact as an organisation is profound. This is shown time and again through positive feedback from visitors, teachers and students about what they’ve learnt from our programs.
But the future of MHM relies on acquiring sufficient revenue.
A gift in your Will can play a vital part in our future.
Your legacy can safeguard history. Encourage positive change. And inspire hope for a world without prejudice.
The impact of your gift
Gifts in Wills help us cover the expenses incurred in operating a world-class museum. These include costs for:
- Conserving and preserving primary source evidence of the Holocaust, such as survivor testimonies
- Engaging experts to educate students and the wider community about the Holocaust
- Employing our support staff, who keep the museum running every day
- Training volunteers
I will remember ideas can be dangerous. We need to stamp out hatred, prejudice and discrimination whenever we can.”
How to leave a gift to MHM in your Will
Once you’ve made provision for your family and loved ones, you can include instructions in your Will or codicil about giving to MHM through your estate.
Below is a simple guide on how to leave a gift in your Will.
We understand that leaving a bequest to MHM is a big decision. If you need any additional information, please get in touch with us on (03) 9528 1985 or via donate@mhm.org.au – or fill in the enquiry form below and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
-
Step 1: Decide on your type of gift
There are two types of gifts you can leave to MHM in your Will:
- A residuary gift, which is a portion of your estate after you’ve made provisions for your loved ones.
- A specific gift, which is a specified fixed sum or an asset, such as a property or shares.
We recommend that you consult your legal advisor to ensure your chosen option best reflects your intentions.
-
Step 2: Choose the wording for your Will
The MHM has two legal entities with different ABNs:
- The MHM operating fund: This covers our day-to-day operations such as staff salaries, material conservation, and the recording of survivor testimonies.
- The MHM Foundation: This is an endowment fund providing for our museum’s long-term financial security and sustainability.
You can decide which entity you’d like your gift to support.
For gifts to the MHM operating fund:
“I give, free of all duties or taxes, <…%, or the rest and residue of my estate, or the sum of $…, or property> to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum Inc (ABN 41 654 216 829) for its general purposes.”
For gifts to the MHM Foundation:
“I give, free of all duties or taxes, <…%, or the rest and residue of my estate, or the sum of $…, or property> to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum Foundation (ABN 27 013 077 595).”
We recommend that you seek advice from your financial advisor or solicitor for final wording to ensure it correctly states your wishes.
-
Step 3: Discuss your decision with your loved ones
While not mandatory, you should consider speaking to family members and friends about your decision.
This allows them to understand – and support – your reasons for choosing to help the MHM through a gift in your Will.
-
Step 4: Share your decision with us (if you’d like to)
We understand that some people prefer to keep this information confidential.
But if you feel comfortable about sharing, please let us know that you’ve remembered us in your Will. We’d love the opportunity to thank you for your generosity and kindness.
We’d love to hear from you

Donate to our collection
Do you or any of your loved ones have an artefact or testimony to contribute?
We collect original historical items from 1933 to the immediate post-war era, 1952. We also provide survivors the opportunity to record their stories in a professional and safe environment.
If you’re unable to contribute original personal items now, please consider offering these as a bequest in your Will.
