About the MHM Foundation
Built on the generosity of our partners
Through the MHM Foundation, donors have the opportunity to form an enduring partnership with the MHM – and contribute to our mission in a most significant way.
Every donation goes into its permanent endowment fund. This provides the MHM with an annual distribution that supports the professionalizing of our team and the constant upgrading of technology within all aspects of the MHM.
Formed to secure the past, for the future
The Melbourne Holocaust Museum was created in 1984 by Holocaust survivors. In the early days, they did all the work in managing the museum – preserving their experiences through testimony and artefact collection, educating many thousands of students and honouring their loved ones who were murdered during the Holocaust.
But over time, as the survivors grew older and their numbers dwindled, it became clear that the MHM would need to employ professional staff to deliver our programs and assist in the day-to-day operations.
Fortunately, in June 2003, the MHM Foundation was established as a stand-alone legal entity with one goal: to ensure our museum’s long-term financial security and sustainability. Helen Mahemoff OAM has been the Chair of the MHM Foundation since inception and it is managed by an independent Board of Directors. The directors are Nina Bassat AM, Joey Borensztajn AM, Allen Brostek, Phil Lewis and Jeffrey Mahemoff AO.
