Elka EKSTEIN

About this book
Elka (Helen) Fomin, one of 13 children, grew up in a hard-working family in Grodno, Poland. Following the German invasion, Elka daily risked her life to smuggle food to her family in the Grodno Ghetto. She jumped from the train transporting her and her sister Sonia to a death camp and walked to the Bialystok Ghetto, hid there before being transported to Stutthof and then Auschwitz, working as slave labour in appalling conditions. In 1947 Elka married Yosl Eksztejn in Warsaw. They lived in Sweden before migrating to Australia in 1951. Her story is an inspiration for all.
